ABOUT
The transformation work of an old abandoned refuge, located near the climbing hall, began in 1989.
After several years of effort, the refuge was inaugurated on October 25, 1992, and named in honor of Bruno Piazza, president of the Ivrea section of CAI and initiator of the project, who tragically passed away in the mountains during an excursion.
The rocky walls of Balma Bianca were discovered in 1952 by climbers from Canavese. Soon, the Ivrea CAI section began organizing climbing courses there, creating new routes and developing the idea of a true 'outdoor climbing hall.' By the early 90s, the site already had 35 routes, but a major turning point came in 1992 with the opening of Rifugio Piazza.
This project enabled the development of hundreds of new routes and led, in October 1998, to the inauguration of the Settore delle Speranze, a wall fully equipped for children.
Unique in the entire Alpine range in terms of size and features, it represents a significant advancement in making climbing more accessible to younger climbers.
